Requests Attention

If the results of your Functional Analysis have concluded that the function of negative behaviour is attention, then this is the program that you need!

As part of teaching FCT for attention-seeking behaviour, use visuals if necessary. They can be cut out and put on a key ring and used to prompt for appropriate attention.

For a non-verbal or only semi-verbal learner, you can use this program, but modify the phrases. Either teach:

  • Some signs (e.g., the student is taught to tap another’s shoulder using his index finger)
  • Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)
  • Modify verbal phrases to their level – 1-2 words max (e.g., “Look” “Attention” “Over here” “Excuse me” etc.)
