Introduction

What are Life Skills?

Skills an individual needs for life. Specifically, to:

  • Live as independently as possible
  • become a contributing member of society
  • develop a sense of dignity and safety
  • Manage personal affairs (e.g., relationships, money)

Units:

Safety:

  • These are skills that an individual needs to stay safe in their home and community and maintain safe boundaries with themselves and others.

Independent Living Skills

  • These are skills that an individual needs to live an independent or semi-independent home life and will include: personal hygiene, kitchen, chores

Community Skills:

  • These are skills that an individual needs to interact safely and appropriately with their community outside of the home.

Pre-Vocational

  • These are skills that are relevant to ANY job and will help the individual be prepared for and successful in the working world. Vocational skills are specific to the job an individual is given and will not be covered in this program.
