Direct instruction is evidenced-based scripted curriculum that we typically use for teaching many academic programs.
We don’t need to reinvent the wheel when someone has done it for us! We absolutely love this curriculum for teaching academics.
This is the data sheet we use when teaching Direct Instruction programs (eg: Teach Your Child to Read, Language for Learning). It allows us to keep track of data on each exercise within the lesson. We can then repeat just the exercise that the child is struggling with, or teach it separately while still allowing the child to move on through the exercises that he can do.
Then we track each lesson mastered on a cumulative graph.
If a student is struggling in one particular area, pull out that track and teach it. Collect data for those areas of need on a yes/no data sheet.
