This teaching program is good for students who are verbal and can reflect on their actions and understand consequences of their behaviour.
Contingency maps can be used to visually draw out consequences for students.
Review particular situations from the “Antecedent Log.” Use the “Contingency Map” visual to teach the student the positive and negative consequences of his actions.
When you act like this, this happens. When you act like this, this happens.
Then ROLE PLAY while teaching this program for maximum effectiveness and generalization.. Take turns acting out the positive and negative outcomes of the situations. Use this data sheet to track when the situation is mastered.
Practice, practice, practice. Evoke the specific situation that the student is working on for more practice. For example, if the student gets angry when he’s not first in line, offer practice situations. You can even tell him about it in advance to prepare him, then fade the advance notice.
Take data on generalization by tracking frequency of occurrence of negative behavior – is what you’re teaching generalizing to real situations?
