Teaching a non-verbal student to begin to use his/her voice can be a challenge if they have never spoken before. We typically start with “Requesting Frequency Turn on Voice.”
If the student has some words and echoes, you can teach using the “Verbal Requesting” program.
Once students are requesting using nouns, we want to increase the frequency of their requests so use “Verbal Requesting Frequency” to measure prompted vs. unprompted mands.
– OR –
Use one counter/clicker only to count the # of mands that a therapist is contriving per session. Sometimes the reason students are not learning mands is because they are not getting enough opportunities throughout a session to practice.
Instead of collecting manding data all session long, sometimes it is easier to collect information on very specific mands in 5-minute increments (e.g., during natural environment teaching NET sessions). “Manding Frequency per Request”
