FCT is a program that should be filed in every domain! When a student is taught to functionally communication (i.e., request/mand), negative behavior typically decreases.
This graph can be used at any stage in development (beginner/intermediate/advanced). Define what is included in your data set (i.e., one particular mand, a set of mands, or any and all mands). Then collect frequency data.
Frequency is typically collected throughout the session and then to determine a rate per hour, divide the frequency count by length of session. For example, if you had 60 mands in a 2 hour session, your frequency per hour that you would graph would be 60/2 = 30 mands per hour.
The best data is prompted vs. unprompted manding. However, we personally find it extremely difficult to collect data on 2 separate counters + run programs + stop negative behavior + + +!!! Therefore, we will sometimes just collect manding data on one counter. We will either count ONLY unprompted mands OR count ANY mand (prompted or unprompted). If you are counting any mand, this is really a count of therapist behavior, not student performance. That is, you could have a therapist who is really great at prompting a bunch of mands throughout session and another one who is intent on running programs, but does not do much natural environment mand training. This will show up in the mand data collected.
It’s still great data to collect because it allows you to see therapist performance. Sometimes when mands do not increase it’s because the students were not presented with enough opportunities throughout the session to learn them.
