This is one of the first manding programs that we put in place for a learner. There is no requirement to talk to get what they want. They just need to point to it.

Note: Most therapists try to teach kids to touch the item when they point to it. Try to avoid this as then kids won’t point to items that are out of reach.

For extra practice, teach using a Pointing Book – This is not a requesting program, but it is a really quick way to teach students to point using their index finger.

Typically once a student is requesting with a point to 100% correct, we track fluency per session using the frequency graph.
