Teaching WHY questions may need to start with rote memorization. We typically teach students to memorize 10-20 why questions (teaching using visuals).
Sometimes we teach with “Super Duper Wh-Pro” App. (or with Super Duper Inc. Why Flash Cards)
Once students learn to respond using “Because…” to approximately 10-20 questions, they tend to generalize there responding to other questions.
You can also use “If then” language to teach as well – e.g., “If you’re hungry, then you eat, so why do you eat?” “Because you are hungry.”
