We always joke that when kids hit puberty, we quit!! lol (That’s not the case though!)
Typically, we plan for puberty in advance of it happening. It is important to get parents on board and respect their individual preferences on what to teach vs. what not to teach.
We typically start by teaching bodies growing and changing. The main message is that your body is going to change and that is okay.
Then we get into teaching hygiene and everything that goes with that (e.g., deodorant use, shaving, etc.).
Then, we get into the fun stuff like menstruation and masturbation. Ugh!
At some point during all of this, we also teach public vs private – one of our very favorite teaching programs.
Here is a great website that covers all things sex ed.
The attached pdf’s were downloaded from the internet and are great resources to give to parents.
