Road Safety

Wow! There is so much to this program. Where to begin?!

1. Assess your learner’s level of independence. Are you looking for full independence with crossing the street, or will your learner always be with an adult?

There is so much to teach. Here’s the order that we would typically follow, but keep in mind this is individualized to teach learner and ever evolving:

1. Responds to Stop

2. Walks with an Adult

3. Stops at the Curb (within the larger “Community Safety” program)

4. Identifies Traffic Signals (run like a receptive labels program and incorporate role play or even play a game like red light/green light)

5. Crossing the Street/Crossing the Street with Assistance (see attachments for program, social stories, and decision chart)

6. Parking Lot Safety (see attached)
