**Typically this program is only taught if a student is not understanding a phonics-based approach to reading. (We love PHONICS!!)
Note: If you teach 10 phonics sounds, a student has learned to read 100+ words. If you teach 10 sight words, a student has only learned to read 10 words.
Sometimes, we break this sight-word program down even further by adding a matching step (Match the sight word to the preferred object and vice versa).
Example:
Put out an array of 3 preferred items – (e.g., train, ball, bubbles)
If the student matches the word correctly, they can play with the given item.
You could also put out 3 words and have the student match the object to the word.
