At the beginning stages of turn taking, it is not about learners having to say, “My turn” and “Your turn,” it’s about shared attention.
When you look at toddlers, they will engage in a back and forth simple play with their caregivers – putting a hat on daddy’s head after dad’s put it on the toddler’s head, pushing a car back and forth to mommy, etc.
Do this for a while, then eventually shape it into more.
