The concept of “Whole Body Listening” comes from the folks at Social Thinking. They may not always be behavior analytic in nature, but they do have some really great visuals!
There are also lots of great visuals on this topic in google images.
The goal is to teach learners how to sit properly and attend during both group instruction and 1:1 learning. We use this terminology all the time with our students. It implies that not only do your ears need to be listening, but your body has to be turned towards the speaker, your eyes should be on the materials, etc.
The Listening Larry book is also a great book to introduce the concept of listening and listening with your whole body. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zQkfiTWjV8 Be sure to role play this book in order to generalize these concepts.
We’ve turned it into a token board so that you can reinforce specific behaviors related to whole body listening.
Also included is a teaching program.
